Duane Andrew Aamot Born: Anaheim, Ca. 1964 Cal Poly Pomona: 1982-1986 (Art) _______________________________ Native Californian Duane Aamot has been painting since the early 1980's, incorporating mixed media with abstraction into highly textured works. Over 1500 works and 23 shows are under his belt. He has shown in 2 large galleries in downtown Los Angeles and 1 in North Hollywood since October 2004. His earlier work escalated, and then revolved around very large paintings...with every material imaginable. "The process of painting and ones intimacy with the surface are most important." Relating this physical nature, much like Degas thumbprints, reminds one that painting is... simply an expression. The figurative elements portrayed in many of his works convey solace and acceptance within an often chaotic environment. The human element, and how one deals with adversity, seems to be a running theme throughout his work. The use of carving, sanding, application of strokes and layering allow the works to become more interactive for the viewer. "People should treat a painting as a sculpture that beckons to touch... it's a personal experience." On larger works especially, it is important to move about the space, viewing the piece from afar and then being drawn in to its heart. Paintings, for him, are not about mechanical perfection and perfectly executed strokes. Instead, they are emotions put to canvas and representthe inner bleedings of the soul. "A child’s sketch is a perfect example of passion and honesty" "My goal is to be original, forthright, and to constantly reinvent".
